The Management Engines, or Agents, are located in the highest layer; they add intelligence to existing systems. These Engines have, for example, the capability to autonomously create purchase orders in order to replenish the inventory levels.
The MPO Supply Chain Suite includes powerful functions for the Optimization of Inventory, Warehousing and Transportation. The Optimization Components add intelligence to existing systems, for example to create purchase orders, replenish inventory levels, and dynamic distribution planning. Sophisticated business rules can be implemented in agent technology to facilitate automated decision making across processes in the supply chain. The Inventory Management Engine (IME) enables partners in a logistic chain to synchronize demand, stock levels and orders over the Internet. The Inventory Management Engines use several algorithms for stock level control and service optimization, such as MRP/DRP over the supply chain. The Distribution Management Engine optimizes the shipments across the supply chain. For each individual shipment a software agent is created, which plans the route, selects the carrier and keeps track of the status. In case of situational changes, the software adjusts the planning automatically. The Optimization modules are real drivers for supply chain innovation.
