Service Oriented Architecture in theory and practice Print E-mail

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) stands for systems that request and provide services to and from each other. A service can be rather functional (transport a shipment), or more technical (print a document). Service interactions in a SOA are managed by middleware and can have different levels of dynamics:

  • - fixed service process (interfaces)
  • - variable service process (BPEL)
  • - search service process (UDDI).

soaWithin a company, SOA has the advantage that best-of-breed systems for warehouse management, transport management, performance reporting, etcetera, can be combined into one IT supply chain solution. Next to that, SOA allows systems of different companies to work together, by resembling the organization responsibilities in the supply chain. Although it is not easy to start with SOA, in the end it can bring richer functionality within companies and flexible integration across companies. At MP Objects we are proud that we have already delivered successful IT supply chain solutions based on SOA. Theory in practice!
