In autumn, nature clearly shows us that life is about an endless cycle of changes, turning organic material into food for growth. Whereas nature changes at a regular pace, business changes seem to accelerate year by year. Today’s Mergers & Acquisitions result in frequent, sudden and massive changes in the structure (and culture) of companies. Those strategic divestments and investments change the organization, but also have major impact on the systems. Depending on the scenario (split or merger) the existing systems need to be separated or integrated. It is typical that companies with a centralized ERP system suffer the most. All of a sudden, the monolithic system does not reflect the new company structure anymore. Yes, forces from M&A, private equity and hedge funds impose new requirements on supply chain systems. We need new systems that are able to follow the changing structure of companies. And we need smart people to design the systems in which functionality and architecture go hand in hand.
